My son spends lots of time out at the "swamp", and spends lots of time studying dragonflies and denselflies. He can tell the difference between the two and whether they are female or male, and all sorts of other stuff we really don't need to know to survive on this planet. He's only 10, but he's very particular about his "flies".So today a dragonfly had gotten into the house. Lily, of course, thought it was a great thing to play with! She had it half dead in her mouth, and my son was frantically trying to save this dragonfly from the mouth of an enormous Lab who wasn't about to give up her new play toy.
Amazingly, my son rescued the dragonfly, laid it down on a paper towel and actually revived the thing! I thought it was dead, but eventually it's wings started to flutter and then it took off in flight! My son was so excited, and I was so impressed.
Well Lily thought it was amazing too! She jumped right up and snatched that dragonfly and it was gone in her tummy in one big GULP!! I know I shouldn't laugh, but it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I thought my son was going to flip! It is kind of hard to calm down an irate, crying child while you're laughing your head off.

That's really funny! Your poor son :P
tragic and hilarious. :O such a sweet kid. :)
Nature is such a cruel teacher sometimes ;)
Reminds me of a time I was showing my son a hummingbird moth feeding on the flowers of a large bush, I heard a loud rustle when the moth flew deeper into the bush....
Pulling the leaves back, I saw that a praying mantis had the moth in it's pincers. "Time to go, kids!" lol
Oh no!! I can totally picture it. But it's MY 10 yo son with our German Short Hair...and instead of dragonfly, insert any star wars or Indiana Jones action figure...
Thanks for the story!!
That would have made me laugh too. It's difficult not to laugh at the kids and pets some days.

I have a cousin who studied environmental science in college, and I went to visit some buddies and him one weekend and we were getting ready to go out and we found him sitting at his computer listening to bird sounds from different types. Your son may go down the same path after he changes his mind 73 times in the years leading up to college about what he wants to do.
